Proofreading and Editing Cost

We have a simple cost structure for our proofreading and editing.

• $7.50 per page for normal turnaround (300 words is considered one page).

• $10.00 per page for 24 hour turnaround (300 words is considered one page).

Normal turnaround time is 3-5 business days although it might be sooner; some of our editors work weekends (crazy I know, but we love grammar), so worst-case scenario, you can expect to have your document back in 5 business days. Business days are considered Monday-Friday.

What do you get for $7.50 per page?

The proofreading and editing cost is based on our detailed four-step approach.

• Step 1: Read document and look for spelling errors. This is a manual check that does not rely solely on the computer’s internal spell check. I am always surprised what is found that the computer spell check misses or thinks is correct (for versus four, to versus two versus too, etc).

• Step 2: Read the document again and look for grammar and sentence errors. This is where most of the work is done. What separates the average writer from the extraordinary writer is the choice of words and the way sentences flow.

• Step 3: Read it aloud, forwards, backwards, and sideways. Hearing a document read out loud is a great way to catch mistakes that are missed. Actually hearing the words out loud is an often overlooked step that is crucial. This also forces the editor to slow down which helps to catch sneaky errors that were overlooked. Some editors even read backwards which, believe it or not, is a great way to catch spelling errors.

• Step 4: Review until it is error free.

There are no shortcuts for good editing and proofreading. The fact is that it takes time and a skilled person to spot errors.
